UK crochet terminology used Finished size measures:  9.25" width x 6.25" height (laid flat) or 23.5cm width x 16cm height circumference of hat to suit toddler 2 year old to 5 year old (19" or 48.5cm circumference) Crochet pattern for rainbow toddler's hat/beanie

CC denotes Colour change in start of each round.

Crown of hat: rounds 1 to 5 (all trebel crochet used)

Start with Purple yarn. ch 6, ss to form ring.

Round 1: ch 1, 11 dc, ss to ch 1 of starting chain.

Round 2: CC – use Fawn coloured yarn. ch 3, 2 tr in each dc st of previous round, ss to to 3^rd ch of ch 3 to finish. Should have 22 st.

Round 3: CC, use deep magenta pink yarn. ch 3, **1 tr in next st, 2 tr in each tr st of previous round**, repeat * to ** to end, ss to to 3^rd ch of ch 3 to finish. Should have 33 st.

Round 4: CC, use white yarn. ch 3, **1 tr in next 2 st, 2 tr in every 3^rd st**, repeat * to ** to end, ss to to 3^rd ch of ch 3 to finish. Should have 44 st.

Round 5: CC, use bright orange yarn. ch 3, **1 tr in next 2 st, 2 tr in every 3^rd st**, repeat * to ** to end, ss to to 3^rd ch of ch 3 to finish. Should have 58 st.

Round 6: CC, use lime bright green yarn.  half double crochet used. Ch 2, **1 hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in every 3^rd st**, repeat * to ** to end, ss to to 2^nd ch of ch 2 starting chain to finish.

Rounds 7 to rounds 12: Double crochet lace pattern taken from The Complete Photo guide to crochet by Margaret Hubert.

Round 9:  CC, use lavender colour yarn. Continue with double crochet lace stitch pattern.

Round 10:  CC, use bright pink yarn.  Continue with double crochet lace stitch pattern.

Round 11: CC, use pastel peach colour yarn.  Continue with double crochet lace stitch pattern.

Round 12:  CC, use variegated purple/blue/pink/white yarn.  Continue with double crochet lace stitch pattern.

Round 13: CC, use fawn colour yarn.  Continue with double crochet lace stitch pattern. 

ch 2, 1 hdc in each st to end of round, ss to ch 2 of starting chain.

Round 14: CC, use variegated pink/red/orange/white/yellow yarn.  Continue with double crochet lace stitch pattern.ch 1, 1 sc in each st to end of round, ss to ch 1 of starting chain. Fasten off.
